«Master Ragaz»
Stefan Ragaz has written and published a book which makes Lucerne’s major cultural treasure – the 500 year old Chronicles by the famous painter and writer Diebold Schilling – available to a wide public. Ragaz, a historian, journalist and trustee of the AFS Foundation, tells the history of Lucerne in a modern, refreshing way and interprets the unique medieval pictures for the contemporary viewer.
Continued fascination
Diebold Schilling has created an outstanding work of art – a work that still gives insight into the world of the Middle Ages as well as into the history of Lucerne and the early Swiss Confederation. 500 years after its completion the fascination for the Lucerne Chronicles remains unbroken; the power of the images still enthralls audiences of all ages.
Historian, journalist and AFSer
Stefan Ragaz, born 1958, is a historian and a journalist. He grew up in Dietikon, in the suburbs of Zurich, and he was an AFS exchange student to Iowa. He studied general history, political science und Swiss history at the University of Zurich. He was editor-in-chief of two local newspapers – the «Limmat Zeitung» and the «Limmattaler Tagblatt», U. S. correspondent in Washington D.C. for newspapers and radio stations in Switzerland and Austria as well as deputy editor-in-chief of the «Luzerner Neuste Nachrichten» and the «Neue Luzerner Zeitung» in Lucerne.
Today, he is university lecturer and publicist.
In 2010 he was elected to the Board of the AFS Foundation.
